Iowa Corn

What would a summer in Iowa be without corn.
Fresh, in the field, sweet corn.
Kevin and I braved the 100+ degrees and went and picked corn to give to the food bank.
It was a rewarding, hot experience.

Summer

Summer is a time for self actualization, using my new cricut,  gardening, and deep cleaning.

I love the lazy, quiet mornings and unhurried days.

Mornings

I used to be a stay up until the wee hours of the morning and sleep in until the early afternoon kind of girl. I would finish a book during the quiet of the night.

But now, I set my alarm early so I can sit around and enjoy my coffee and play on my phone, or read a little before I have to start my day.

Right now I have my windows open to get an early morning breeze and some fresh air coming into the house before the heat of the day gets here. ( oh my goodness, I am my mother's daughter! )

As I sit on the couch looking out the front window, I feel so blessed! The hills and the trees are lush and green, and the clouds are beautiful!

I can hear the birds chirping and the frogs croaking down by the creek. What a wonderful, almost loud, greeting they make.

Thank you God for helping me enjoy my mornings!

Hope

There is so much hope when planting a garden. Hopes for an abundance of vegetables - enough to make spaghetti sauce and enough to freeze. Enough to make you almost tired of cucumber salad  and salsa. Almost.

I had my first little "harvest" today. Seven crunchy radishes. I added them to a salad and they were delicious.

Hope.

Spring

                           Spring
Green grass and longer days.
Rain storms that help my tulips to bloom.
Bike rides, walks, and golf.
But don't forget working in the yard.
Birds to feed as well as the squirrels.
Gone is the snow and ice, and I'm so glad!

Thank you God for Spring!

Valentine's Day

A snowy Sunday.
A walk to get a newspaper through the snowy streets.
Listening to a play away book.
Bean soup and pork ribs.
Shoveling.
A perfect Valentine's Day!

2016

Three years.
I can't believe we've lived in this house for 3 years.
How time flies!
I remember my mom telling me how quickly the years pass as one grows older.
How right she was!

Since my last post, we've enjoyed so much family time!
*We got to see the kids and  my mom at  Thanksgiving.
*the Watts Family Christmas was so much fun with 43 of us in attendance.
*the kids got to come visit after Christmas and we had a great time despite the brief time together.

Now, we are all back to work
a new year -  a fresh calendar hanging in the pantry.

Welcome 2016!

A few pictures from the last weeks of 2015...
