Spring Break

Spring break has already been here and gone. School again tomorrow morning. Last Sunday I took this photo of, as Kevin calls it, the "Watts Glacier". Then again today I took the second photo. It's almost gone. I have put up blockades and barriers to keep the dogs from going straight for the mud, it has helped a little. I still need to wipe their feet most trips outside though.

Allison had a great break, she went to Puerto Rico with two friends, one boy, one girl. They went to Old San Juan, the rain forest, the beach, and all in all, they had a great time. I hope to see some photos and get more details as the week goes on.

Kris just stayed at home and saw friends almost every night, he went to a movie, bowling, dinner, etc.

We took off last weekend and went to Minneapolis and went shopping at Ikea and the Mall of America, mostly looking, I think I spent $28. I know, I know big spender. But we had a great time.

This weekend we went to Centerville for a day. We saw Kevin's mom in the nursing home twice, and visited with Kevin's family. We saw lots of babies. It was great.

I just showed Kevin the blog and he suggested I put on a photo of the snow when it was really high, and I guess I didn't take one when it was at it's highest, but this one is pretty good. We sure had a lot of snow.

Iowa State Web Cam

This is such a neat web cam, you can control it, and it is almost in real time, just a slight delay. So if you ever wonder about the weather in Ames, IA or would just like to see some of the campus follow this link.....http://www.fpm.iastate.edu/webcam/westlawn/.

Wet Sloppy Snow

Allison and Emanuel made it back to Ames safely, although it did take them a little longer then planned. They left around noon and it was just raining lightly, but 1/2 an hour into the trip they started seeing wet, sloppy, slippery snow. They saw cars in the ditch, and had limited visibility. Thankfully, they slowed down, at times to 25mph and kept on the road. So many of our snow storms both this year and last seemed to come over the weekend. Hopefully the weather will be nicer next weekend when all the kids are headed out for spring break.

This is a photo from this afternoon, the snowflakes were huge and the picture doesn't do it justice, it was an impressive snowfall. (only about an inch total)

Great Weekend

It's only Saturday evening and I've had a great weekend so far. Kevin and I both had yesterday off, so we got up and went out for breakfast. It was really nice. Then we had a little running around to do, groceries, misc. errands. It was nice sharing the day with him. Allison came home from Iowa state and brought her boyfriend Emanuel with her. We went out to eat at a favorite Mexican restaurant. I had a coupon from http://www.restaurant.com/ so we hardly had to pay anything. I had gotten the coupon for $2 and it was good for $25 off a purchase of $35 or more. I like getting good deals. :-)

This morning Kevin and I woke up at our usual time, and go figure, the two college kids slept in. Kevin dug out our old Italian coffee maker, the one you use on top of the stove. He used the coffee that Emanuel had brought us. We enjoyed a cup of strong coffee and got quite the jump start once the caffeine kicked in. I don't drink much caffeine, and I really felt it. I made an egg bake too. It turned out pretty good.

Allison, Emanuel, and I went shopping. They are going to Puetro Rico with another friend over spring break. Both Emanuel and Allison's other friend Jennifer are from there. So Allison is going to get to see some pretty cool sites. She will get to practice her Spanish too.

The kids have to head back first thing in the morning so we went to church this evening. Our new church has a 5:30 service. We had to hurry home from shopping and enjoy some chicken curry that I had ready for us to eat.

I've been reading a lot during the down times this weekend. I brought home 3 books from my library, all next year Iowa Children Choice candidates. I've finished one and a half so far. I love reading books for kids. They are quick and you don't have to worry about inappropriate things.
