I dug out these old photos before Christmas. Weren't the kids sweet? What a long time ago,
these were taken when we lived in Sembach, Germany.

January Winter

I just counted the days I've been to school since December 18th, only7 days. The 19th of Dec. was a snow day as were the 14th, 15th, and 16th of January. Martin Luther King day is in there, as well as me having some virus that has kept me home for the past 3 days. So 7 days out of 35, and one of those 7 days was a two hour delay.

So far this year, we have had more snow then last, and last year was a record breaker. We also have had a tie breaker for coldest day ever -35 without windchill. It was -50 with the wind chill. Brr! Those were our last 2 snow days, subzero days. Way too cold for kids to stand at bus stops waiting to get picked up, or walking to school.

This photo is of Zoey on our deck. Look at all that snow. We had 3 snow falls in 5 days. 3 inchs, 4 inches and 7 1/2 inches. Wow!

This weekend, Kevin and I drove down to Centerville and visited with his family for a couple of days. It was nice seeing the Centerville crew. We haven't been down there since June when Kevin's dad passed away. It was a little hard being there without him around.

Kevin's mom is temporarily in a rehab senior center. She had pneumonia in December, and still needs some help getting things done and getting back on her feet. She needs our prayers because she has never been a strong woman, and this has set her back alot.

This photo was taken on a warm Memorial Day in 2003 in Centerville, Iowa. I think this is the last photo we got with mom, dad, and all 6 kids. We were together other times, weddings, babies, etc, just never thought to get a photo. How sad.

Back to Work and School

Allison left yesterday afternoon to head back to school. Tomorrow she will move into her new room across campus to be a RA. This is her first semester doing this. We know she will do well with it, she has always enjoyed helping people and organizing events and activities.

Kevin and I both went to work today the first day in over two weeks. We had such a nice break. This is the first time I think ever that we all have had this many days off in a row. I got a little bonus this morning, we had a two hour delay. Saturday we had yet another ice storm, and all the side roads are still completely covered in ice. I was actually expecting a whole snowday, but they made us venture out. Kids sliding all the way to school. :-)

After school/work tomorrow, Kevin and I are heading over to Ames to help Allison move, hopefully she will have most of her stuff already moved, but we will help with the larger items. We also need to buy her a fridg and a futon and get those items moved in for her. Her roommate this year had both of these items, so Allison didn't need them... until now.

Guess who called me at work today saying he wasn't feeling well, Kris. Poor kid, he has a fever now, I don't know if it is the same thing Kevin had, Kevin's was a week and a half ago. Do you think this virus has that long of an incubation time? Kris was going to help us move Allison tomorrow, but now he needs to stay home and get better. Wednesday he has to move back and start training with Allison for the RA jobs. This is Kris' 4th semester as a RA.

I hope you all are enjoying 2009. I'll write more later.

Change of Plans

The day after I wrote the previous post, we woke up, Kevin was feeling great, and no one else was sick, so we decided to head to Illinois to visit my mom, my sister and her family. At first everyone was on board about going, and as we were packing, the kids decided they would rather stay home and see friends who they had only seen once since school started. At first I was disappointed they didn't want to join us for some more good old-fashioned Christmas family time, but then decided we have been together so much, it might just be nice just Kevin and me going. So we did. I felt bad for my sister, first I told her we weren't coming, then only two days later... surprise!

We had a great time staying up talking, going out for pizza, and making Christmas doughnuts ( a long time family tradition going into it's 4th generation ).

After we came home on New Year's Eve, we went to our friends house and rang in the new year with homemade pizza, skip-bo and tv scene it. (there were questions we actually knew with tv shows like charlie's angles, MASH, and many more that we grew up watching.)It was a lot of fun.

Allison and Ben made my mom's famous peanut butter balls, the other day. They turned out really well. A little too well, we've almost finished them.

Allison is enjoying her new guitar, she is practicing and sounding quite well!

Kris has decided to learn the guitar. He's mentioned a couple of times in recent years that he would like to start playing one, but this break, I dug out my old one for him to use and he is really doing well. One afternoon, he practiced for two hours.
